16v has a "16v" in red under the GTI badges at rear and a 16v in red on grille.
99 times out of a 100 if ad just says GTI then it will be an 8v.

Late model mk3 16v have larger diameter front brake discs, 288mm like the early mk4 gti's.

the 16v will be fecking off down the road once it has passed 4500rpm and the driver has chosen to unleash the fury

other than that, and the badges... not a lot in it

i may rebadge my 16v to be a CL !

I was only joking mate. Before i purchased my 16v mk3 i was seriously toying with either an 8v, 16v or the vr. I ruled out the vr because of the stupid fuel consumption and it'd be an everyday driver. Sad as it sounds the thing that really settled it for me was under the bonnet. The 8v engine on the mk3 just doesnt look like anything overly special, the 16v lump on the other hand looks a lot meaner! For the sake of very little insurance difference and the extra power it had to be the 16v!! Whatever you go for be prepared to spend a bit of money getting it running 100%

Any second hand car you purchase, wether it be 12 months old or 12 yrs old is never 110%. Lets say you owned an 800 run around, it would be worth more to you than anyone else because youd know exactly what its faults were (no matter how little), how it drives etc etc, you get to know your car. Ive never purchased a car that was 100%, even if it was little things.

You cant tell me your going to buy a second hand valver that is perfect?? Depends how fussy you are i suppose, i know id always end up spending a bit of money on any car i purchased no matter how pristine, until i was satisfied with it.

yes i suppose your right you always forget the minor bit wrong with your own car after you have had it a while, when i buy a car i tend to take them to work and go through it with a fine toth comb and prob spend a bit on it
