    Please help me!!! [:^(]

Canon EOS 550D vs Sony A580

Canon EOS 550D vs Sony SLT-A55

Sony Alpha A580 vs Sony SLT-A55

Always had EOS entry level cameras in the past, so i know how they work, know what makes them tick. There is minimal price difference in the cameras im looking at. However, if you want IS, you have to buy an IS lens. Which is expensive. Only 3.7fps.

Sony Alpha (and the SLT below) cameras have IS built into the body, rather than the lens. And are compatible with Minolta A fit lenses. Which can be had for cheap. 7fps.

The SLT-A55 is new technology (uses a translucent mirror which lets 70% light to the sensor), but at its price point is the only entry level DSLR (even though its not actually an SLR) that includes GPS geotagging. Which is a bonus. Up to 10fps, although people have had issues with this. Recommended manual control and 6fps.

Both the Sony cameras, can also carry out automatic HDR. All 3 cameras can do HD movie.

    Cheapest prices:
    Alpha A580 + kit lens 599.99
    SLT-A55 + kit lens 599.99
    EOS 550D + kit lens 620

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Please dont mention Nikon. Tried, dont like.

Translucent mirror cameras get through batteries quickly, as the sensor has to work for the view finder image. Unlike a proper SLR which just uses the light off the mirror. Sony picture quality is long way behind Canon and Nikon. The extra functions are not free;)

Absolutely, appreciate that. But plan to get a grip for whichever i decide anyway. TBH, ill end up getting the Canon anyway - its just too predictable. But just interested to hear thoughts on the others. Sony are catching up, and the IS in the body is a huge advantage.

Can't go wrong with a Canon. I was split between Canon and Nikon then decided to go with Canon. Looks like you got a good package there.

Cheers. Helps that ive had 2x EOS models in the past. Would love to blow the budget on a 7D, but that will have to come later. In fact, id love a 1D Mk4. Yum.
