hey, hanks for all the support - its all useful, some makes me laugh,
others make me think more about what to do...
    CHEERS!!!!!

i do trust the garage, the fella that was drivin is a decent northen bloke
living down south (like myself) and is always happy to chat about cars, he
wasn't raggin it around, i trust him on that one. the old bid that he
crashed into admitted it was her fault, the crash police measured the skid
confirming the blame too, and their (bid and garage) insurance
companies will be sorting it all out.

just been speaking to my insurance brokers, Brentacre, and they are really
helpful, they've given me some good advice as to what to do and when
(like ringing people up) so top marks to Bill and Kerry (a bloke) there!!!

i'd like the valver engine in a mk1 but the garage fella informed me today
that its really in need of a re-build (yeah, yeah, the whole car is now...!),
so i suppose you could say i've got out of that expense, i just need to get
mi self a replacement car... and i'm skint until the insurance money
    comes through [xx(]

i'm off up north now anyway - brighton to blackpool in the sheddy silver
mk1 cab for my nieces birthday disco!!! should be wicked, she's 4!

    thanks again,
    fat roy

    ;)

its all well and true testing the car to see if the work is ok, but you said it went in for a service.

if the only thing done was an oil and filter change, i don't think that constitutes a test drive as such.

Listento yourselves, if you`ve worked on any car (or bike for that matter) you have to make sure it`s safe! I test ride every bike I work on, to make sure what I`ve done is ok and also to make sure the rest of the bike is fine. Any service should include a testdrive for that reason!

That's exactly right. And if you don't feel confident with your mechanic driving your car, you're going to the wrong garage.[/QUOTE] i dont take it know where i fix it my self then i know its done right

...people are too quick to want to point the finger!
keithmac, you are spot on mate!

i've been overtaken by quite a few decent mk2's this
weekend and spent quite a few driving hours
thinking about what car i'm going to buy next, so
    here's my top 3:
1 - keeping it real: a silver 8v mk2 golf (big or small
bumper) - maybe a syncro if i found one...
2 - acting my age (32 this year!): some kind of TDI an
audi 80 maybe? (better get me a zimmer frame with
    that too...)
3 - going beyond my means and not being sensible:
audi coupe or some kind of quattro

well, i've got about 7 hours of driving ahead from the
north west back down to brighton in a bit, so no
doubt there will be more thinking being done on the
    way...
and then bloody insurance stuff to be getting
    organised next week...
    rubbish!

    cheers,
    roy
