Right, so I'm currently on my 3rd carburettor flange. And to be honest im getting a little bit fed up.

I'm assuming they keep breaking due to the lack of support the carb has. I was thinking of making something along the lines of a bracket from the rocker to the carb. Like many inlet manifolds have.

Was just wondering if anyone has had this same problem and has an alternative solution.

Also it's a Weber carb with a bolt on filter.

the 1.6 and 1.8 has one as standard, yours is just missing ;)

it goes to a rubber bush on the front of the airbox, this may also need replacing if the stud on the front has snapped

Well the thing is, I no longer have the air box or the bracket that attaches to the fuel vapour thing. Running a pancake filter.

ah i see, to the carb it is then! but tbh, i woudl recommend you put the oem airbox back on as the pancake one will probably lead to carb icing in the winter

A support bracket between the carb and a couple of valve cover studs seems like the way to go (if you are determined not to run the factory airbox). I guess you're buying non-genuine flanges? Genuine ones may be made of better rubber, but I wouldn't bet my life on it, and the price will probably be twice that of a pattern part. Not designed to work without the carb being supported though, so nothing will really last (unless you want to custom-build something out of PEEK or similar, if you really fancy a challenge!).

I would have used the original air box but the carb didn't come with the adapter plate. So it was easier to use the pancake filter. I got a flange from GSF and turns out it wasn't machined properly. So now I'm waiting for one from vw heritage.

For now though, I'm going to use for flexible exhaust brackets.
