    Hello people

Iv just brought my first 16v varient of the mk2. It's a recorded cat c so managed to pick it up for less than its worth in parts. The good news is that the car has been fully repaired by VW main dealer, passed the VIC test and came with a full MOT. The bad news is although I have a few reciepts I dont know the exact extent of the damage.

Engine wise, its had a tough life and is suffering from the usual 16v niggles (lumpy idle, cutting out etc) but whats worrying me the most is that turning left is far too difficult compared to turning right which is far too easy.

Also, when moving it does tend to pull to the right. Its just had new tyres all round and the tracking is fine so just wanted to see if anybody could suggest what this might be other than a bent chassis?

    Steering wrack?

    Thanks

    J

when you say the tracking is fine, have you had a proper 4 wheel alignment done on it? that will also tell you if its bent or not

Steering rack might also require adjustment, or it could be tyres. Are they the same make either side/worn equally?

    Hi,

Thanks guys! Same tyres all round, tyre pressure was down on Drivers side front so thats now back up. Still the same so going to send it in for four wheel alignment and check the steering wrack at the same time.

I'd check the wishbone, all the bolts, ball joints and the steering rack tbh.

Mine done this when the wshbone bolt sheered off. Its worth a look.

Could be a twisted steering rack boot getting caught up.

Wicked! Cheers for help your help chaps!

I haven't had the chance to llok at it yet so will get round to it at the weekend - will check all of the above. Hopefully only 1 but not all of the above will be the problem.

Richard, I think I saw a thread of yours regarding that sheered wishbone bolt? I assume you got it out in the end?
