Anyone know how big a job this is?

Didn't see a speed bump last night and front end smashed about 2ft into the floor and now engine is completely drained of oil[:^(]

Im sure the subframe has to be moved and the engine has to be supported.

Edit - Just found this which should be useful Wez

This is gonna cost me a fortune.

How many litres of oil do you think I can get away with to whip it 2 minutes down to my mechanic?

I'd rather not spend 50 auid on 5l which is just going to drain straightaway

    zzzzz Wha? oh, part number 058 103 603 is listed to fit ADR and AFY, superceeded by 058 103 603 D and then by 058 103 598 D and then again by 058 103 598 B.

058 103 598 B is listed for ADR, AFY, APT, ARG but only for chassis numbers up to F 3B-Y-000 001

    Cheers RJ.

My sump is no use then Wez, your engine is the later type of 06X block.

Any tips on soaking the oil up and getting it off my tyres?

How bad is the sump broken? If it is not holding oil at all I would not start the vehicle at all as you could trash the engine with no oil pressure. Get it towed to wherever it is going to be fixed.

Clean up wise, loads of fairy liquid and hot water to get the worst off everything, going to be messy work but that will do in the meantime. A proper steam clean would be the real answer though.

NB. Do not start the engine if the sump is holed badly.

They are a nightmare, I changed one years ago. Subframe doesnt have to come off completely, I got away with loosening the subframe bolts and then I then partially removed the lower engine mounts and jacked the engine up and it just squeezed past. It was a bit of an awkward squeeze but its doable.

i'm not the work myself, just wanted to know how hard it was, full days labour at mates rates, i should be able to handle that.

will inform my mate tomorrow he's towing me, best to take precautions even though i think the oil has trickled out, didn't start leaking within 5 minutes of impact, and no warning lights for the 15 mile drive home.

what would have buggered it was the 2 minutes it was running this morning before warning lights came on [:^(]
