changing the viscous fan bearing on a b5 tdi

    right has anyone done this job im just about to start stripping it down to get to it any tips would be cool cheers

    3B chassis, depends on the year but all about the same

    leave fan belt on, big grips on the pully

    8mm allen on a socket /small extention on a racket though the back of the housing to the bolt holding on the pully, quick crack to loosen

    loosen fan belt, locking in the tensioner with a drill bit/pin
    the pully will wind off


    repeat to reinstall

    cheers got most of it stripped down just stuck on the power steering pully undone the 3 bolts but the pully is still solid any ideas

    Shedload of WD40, then loads of heat, and a bit of tapping should sort that out. :thumbup:

    do u mean the rusty circle bit in the middle as i can get a 9mm alan key in there
