just wondered where seems to be offering the best deals on a brand new mk5 GTi? I'm looking for a non DSG 3dr without options for 18.5k currently, seems very goods given used cars fetch more then that?

try emailing some dealers in belgium with your spec and see what they can do for you, used to be the cheapest place in eu for cars - not sure now tho.

then just go over and pick it up

Importing is the cheapest way, you can get some good deals in Germany now too and they will make the car to full uk spec

According to Top gear site Germany is the most expensive place in Europe for VWs. Many excluding us though?)

Be wary, you only get 2 years warranty instead of 3 and the dealer won't want to know if you ever want to trade it in, they'll also be worth a fair bit less come re-sale and insurance is going to be more expensive.

I would have saved 3k if i had bought mine as an import but i weighed that up against future resale value, warranty and higher insurance costs and worked out that over a few years i'd probably be better of with the UK car, doesn't really matter though i'll be keeping mine for a good few years.

i doubt if you will get anything off a new r32 or gti , i was told "if you don't buy it someone else will !"
and i think im right in saying vw will offer no discounts at all period

Thats where your wrong i got a discount on my brand new mk5 from a uk dealer.

Insurance on an import is more, if you haven't told the insurance company that its an import i bet they WILL sting you if you ever need to claim (and i hope you don't ever need too).

Didn't know you could buy the 3rd year warranty, how much is it?
