I went onto Powerbulbs to check the price of a set of H4 headlamp bulbs and i couldn't believe the price! Surely there are place to buy these bulbs at a more competitive price?

20 for the 50% brighter OSRAM pair and 14 for the 30% brighter OSRAM pair.

Well, GSF want 15 plus delivery for +30% (no brand mentioned), ECP don't stock them.

Halfords wanted 18 for a pair of Bosch +30% as well.

So I don't think Powerbulbs are that expensive (especially as those prices inlcude delivery)

Don't pay anything below a tenner IMO cos i read a article (month ago) in the Autoexpress and some of the cheap bulbs they tested were absolutely cr@p and dangerous [:v:]

See if you can find the test/article on their site, before you buy.

I ordered a pair of the Osram Silverstar H4 50% brighter bulbs from Powerbulbs on Tuesday & I got them through the door this morning - good service I thought. I'll fit them this evening if it stops bloody raining!

One thing, on the website it states that you get a free pair of sidelight bulbs with every order. Is this offer still running, 'cos I didn't get any [:^(]

The best deal I've found so far is 16.99 (inc. delivery) for a pair of Osram Silver Star +50% bulbs. Both H1 and H4 are available from Fergusons of Stirling

Ordered them 4pm Tuesday, arrived in the post 10am Wednesday. Superb.

    Guys,
I hope this doesnt spoil your day,
but I bought a pair of Osram Silverstar H4s (thats the plus 50% ones) from CPC (www.cpc.co.uk) recently for 9.94 +VAT.
Mind you, having compared one of the new bulbs with my one remaining bog std bulb, I can't say I noticed a 50% improvement. I think you really need to increase the wattage before you are going to make a huge difference.

    I think you misunderstand.

The bulbs cannot emit 50% more light, otherwise they would never be able to be E marked - the autoexpress review goes into lots of details why. The +50% claim is related to the brightness 70m in front of you - the bulbs have a much better aligned filament that allows you to throw more light into a useful place.

WOW. Thats impressive. Osram Silver Stars and Philips Vision Plus are both at least 15 for a pair by the time you include postage. Or at least that's what e-bay is showing at the moment.

CPC are 17.55 for a pair of Silver Stars (by the time you include postage)

Which makes Fergusons of Stirling (16.99) still the cheapest mail order in the UK.
