Okay are there any household cleaners that will remove oxidisation and crap etc from a gearbox casing. Don't really want to go down the beadbalsting route or the TSC HCL method. I'm guessing something perhaps like Mr Muscle or something equally noxious?

Ahh guys... What Trev says ^^^

I'll try Mr Muscle & Wonder wheels and see how I get on.

I love pictures like that - They strike horror into my GF as she knows/suspects that kinda thing happens when she's not at home!

Edit: To PigBladder, I tried the Wonderwheels on the inlet mani, alternator ect- Works quite well but caused myself another problem - I now have white acid marks on my plastics - Any idea of what I can use to remove them? I'm gonna try a little brake cleaner tom and see how I get on.

Brake cleaner can take the colour out of plastics as well ive found, im not sure what i can suggest to remove it, wd40 tends to clean up black plastics quite well so you could always give that a try

Made a first pass on the box today with Wonder Wh.. Erm... Wonder Gearbox  and managed to shift most of the 'orrid cr@p.

Next stage is some parrafin to clean out the gunk inside the casing.... Then its decide time - powdercoat or some painty type stuff.
