Last night my mk1 scirocco developed a click which seemed to spoeed up and slow down as the car did, from the rear left wheel. What could be causing that? I did a quick check and its not the wheel bolts. [:s]

My thoughts were possibly brake shoes worn out? I've never had a pair of brake shoes wear out to know what it sounds like tbh...

You might find the shoes and drum internals are tapping the end of the wheel bolt. You can easily check this by jacking the wheel up, spinning it, see what noise you get, then take off the wheel, and spin again.

I had a funny noise on the back, which I never got to understand. Having stripped off the hub, checked all's in place inside, and put back together, the noise disappeared. And nothing seemed to be out of place [:s]

it's possible the inner wheel weight is touching the handbrake cable
