Just had a quote from a local garage which are pretty good who will replace a clutch (provided by myself of course!) for 210 inc VAT.

The clutch itself being a SACHS is 110 delivered, so with labour a clutch change is looking at 320 all in.

Does that sound good then? Or can I get it done cheaper?

it sounds reasonable, clutch change is a sod. How many hours is that? I'd still shop around though, see if you can knock some quids off.

Well GSF want 139 for a clutch kit (not sure on brand) haven't checked ECP.

But if I can get a SACHS kit for 111 to my door, seems only cheaper kits are awful quality items, which I don't want to scrimp given my cars got a remap. I know since i've owned the car with 28K the clutch bite has been reduced and only recently its got to the point i'm noticing the slight slip when hard shifting.

Yeah my car has only got 57k on, but the original owner was an old man who did 23K, then the cars had near 35K of miles since its re-map, which isn't bad really when you read of other TDI PD owners who have troubles after a few thousand miles after a remap on the original clutches. Was meant to be getting the car rolling roaded the following weekend, but i'm pulling out now as don't want to over stress the clutch.

The clutch isn't slipping much unless you really give it some beans in between gear changes, so need to consider my options.

Haven't been told how many hours, but given my TDI engine bay is tiny and cramped it seems like its a sod job.

Going to call around, but now i know a ballpark for a reasonable garage is 320 for all in, i might barter some down.

Car sits all day at the moment on the motorway so no real damage being down, but need to start budgeting money to replace it over the forthcoming months.

so snatchy gearchanges killed the clutch lol

on the rollers they get it up to 4th etc and then floor it from low revs

there shouldnt be a problem for the clutch if its only slipping when snatched

No snatchy gear changes from me

Yeah its fine when in gear, think JKM will be testing power in 3rd gear.

But problem is my engine torque is quite agressive from 2krpm upwards, so doesn't help [:$]

The clutch I think will last me another month or two taking it to around 60k but will just monitor it and get some prices so I can book it in advance.

Will chat to the rolling road people, as not really wanting to put it on the rollers to find it slips and ends up damaging the flywheel [:$]

find out what gear theyll use. i really dont think theyll use 3rd as thatll go to a max of 60mph, most rr runs end up well over 100mph. i recon itll be atleast 4th. see what they say about the clutch

not had a clutch done my self from mr clutch but others i know who have have all been told they need the flywheel skimming and they would not guarentee it if they do not have it done which may make the price higher.

you will regret getting a clutch done by one of them. apparently they recondition clutches.

some idiot i work with had a clutch done there. the first time round they put a jack through the floor.

11k miles later it was dead (in a torqueless honda). it was meant to take a day and took a week and still wasnt right

Well a VAG specialist has quoted me 380 all in, so going to see my mechanic mate now who part owns a garage with his dad to see how much he can do it for, hopefully he can do it for around 150 as he's pretty good with stuff.

Definately not doing a Mr Clutch, just wanted to see what a 'cheap' clutch cost is to give some comparison.
