Whats better and why? and what do i need? I know NOTHING about lowering and dont know where to start , Ive an Audi A3 and dont want to lower it so much ive problems round town, just enough to make a difference TIA
how low are you thinkin and how much are you wanting to spend if your only doing 40mm ish drop id go for shocks and springs
I've been hearing good things about the Jamex coilovers that you can pick up for qround 300. You'd be hard pushed to beat that imo.
Dont worry, most people on here don't either! Thought you were selling the car anyway? Think about your pennies before deciding? That chassis will benefit greatly from uprated arbs too.
I was talking about me!! *edit* but more to the point, if you didn't sleep with him what DID you do with/to him?
@ bundles Seraph, I was selling it, well, i may still be, oh, i dont really know I think of all the stuff I want to do to the A3, and tbh, the VR sounds good, and i have always wanted one, but I dont know where i would start with it, so im probably after lots of thinking and knowing i'll regret it keep the A3 And thats why im looking more into going ahead with plans for the A3
I'd like an S3, but its not going to happen @ Bundles, if i ever win the lottery i'll buy you a VR ok?
Coilovers better ride than shocks springs??? Are you mental? I suppose it depends but I have FK Koenigsport height and damping adjustable shocks and even poor quality shocks and spring combos give a more comfortable ride, however on a track the FK's turned up to full hardness would be hard to beat for handling characteristics. Depends on how you define 'better' i suppose.
the ride quality depends largely on the damping. the ride height is determined by the springs. if you go too low, you end up with problems with speed bumps and other stuff. with the golfs like mine, 35mm is about as far as you want to go without heading into troubles. as for the a3s, i really dont know. maybe show us a pic of the car as it is and we could give you an idea. as for coilovers/normal springs dampers and which is better, it depends on a lotta things. if you want to go super low and want to play about with the heigh, youre better off with coilovers. if you want something to fit and forget, simple spring/damper combo will be fine. so do you simply want to sharpen up your car.... deck it to the max.... have a track machine? or what? let us know and we can help you further. budget is all important too. how much are you happy to pay?
What type of driving do you do? If you never plan to take it on a track, and just want it hassle free, then it is pointless getting coilovers. Your best bet is to get a decent shocks and springs kit from someone like H&R, Eibach or Koni. These will still give massive improvements to the handling and lower the car a respectable amount.
