just to prove that there is no rhyme nor reason to insurance this happened.

I pay 850 on my Mk3, suspension changed, aged 26 2years ncb. Now they want to put my insurance up so I had a look around, all the quotes were around 1100.

However one place said if I had a competion licence and entered my car in something like hillclimbs then I could be looking at as low as 400 for the year.

Now can anyone explain how the hell I am less likely to damage mine or anyone else's car if I have a competioin licence.

I think they just make it up, random number generator or similiar.

    Christ!

You need to look around more, my insurance is 650 fully comp 22, 3yr ncb, and thats with ALL my modifications declared!

I guess by having a competition licence you are less likely to be involved in silly accidents?

Brentacre, Elephant, HIS, Tesco, Liverpool Victoria, Direct Line. You name it I tried them.

MK3 16v's are fatherless childs to insure, is it because there was only 1500 of them, expensive parts, I can't believe this is the reason.

I live in a nice area too so its not that

yeh, but you'r insured whilst you compete too, surely you're far more likely to crash then?

Probabaly for a claim during an exvent your excess will be sky high, and you will be restricted to what you can claim for like on track day cover etc etc.

They will look at the profile of competition licence holders who *stereotype mode on* may be typically older, fewer claims, claims of lesser value, fewer accidents, more than one car, a dedicated competition car so sees fewer road miles etc etc. These are some of the things you can attach value to as an actuary.

You could always just get a comp license.....

    MSA

    You'd need a non-race national b license - 30 a year.

That was my thought exactly, I'd love to have a go at some hillclimbs.

It was with Competition Cars by the way if anyone's interested.
