Whats everyones opinions on these? Thinking of upgrading to the 2.0 16v mk3 golf but how do these compare to the corado 2.0 16v. Are they the same engine/bhp etc? Edited by: mk3_oxford
Not the same engine as the mk3. Its a 9A lump, I think it uses a different injection system (motronic or something like that), they are 140hp as standard, and run tamer cams than the 1.8 KR lumps found in mk2 16v's.
Corrado 2L 16v=136BHP...it has a very restrictive inlet cam meaning it produces slightly less peak power than a 1.8 16v (139BHP) Changing the inlet cam to a KR type (1800 16v) & proper setup should poke peak power up to 155-160BHP on an otherwise standard engine..
The ABF in the Mk3 is probably the better engine and can easliy see 175bhp with a few tweaks. You are probably looking at buying a 2l at the right time because the 16v Corrados seem cheap at the moment. As said a standard Corrado is far better then a Mk3 but just try both and see.
