Are they like rocking horse poo, hens teeth etc....?

The reson i ask is that my mk3 whines in reverse a bit and when i look under the bumper i gan see a big weld on the box housing which cant be good.

If i were to get another i would get a corrado one because of the improved ratios.

How much do they go for? Could i exchange mine for one thats been refurbed? Is it a straight swap?

You'll be looking at around 250.

Yes, it's worth it and the casing is identical to the 2.8 one.

Check the 3 digit gear code to make sure it's the right one. Can't remember off the top of my head which one it is but I can look it up.

Any idea why mine might have the weld?

It looks like it was an auto out of the factory because the plastic trim round the gaitor is blue [:s]

the bottom of the bellhousing hangs really low down, they get whacked a lot. quite commen to see them cracked and/or welded up. it only covers the flywheel, doesn't hold any oil behind it.
