I just bought a Corrado box to put in the golf. Will there be a huge difference in the ratios?

Can I expect a decent increase in acceleration from the change?

Yes. final drive on the corrado box is 3.66:1, golf is 3.3:1.

I personaly HATED the golf box, but decided on a 3.94:1 final drive as opposed to the corrado one.

how much did you pay if I may ask ? its something i'm
interested in as I hate the golf ratios - I think it slows the car
down alot; they are too high IMO.The gearbox may be more
important than the greater power of the corrado engine in
accounting for the greater acceleration of the corrado over the
golf (after all corrado is heavier which swallows up the bhp
    advantage)

sounds like you have similar tates to me. go straight for the 3.94 with a Quaife or Peloquin diff, you won't regret it. budget for 1000 all in, inlcuding a rebuild. speak to Vince at Stealth.

The corrado one will ruin your car, pm me your address and i'll come and remove it from your garage floor ;)

    What i realy meant was:

You jammy t**t, i'm after one of those but cant find one, if anyone knows where i can find one, buzz me.

Or i could splash out on the stealth jobbie, i reckon i'm a VR man for life so i could keep it for my future cars [:D]

I won't upset you anymore by telling you how much I paid for the Corrado box with the Quaiffe LSD fitted and a recent rebuild plus Schrick 268 cams then..

sounds like a good mod to me !
what 0 - 60 would a pretty standard 2.8 vr6 do with just this mod
(assuming it wasnt running crap like mine of course!)

Stealth recommended I put a G60 final drive instead of a C. Is the g60 one shorter? :)

Dunno, I always thought G60 was 3.6:1 too?

Never had 0-60 timed on my VR6, but from the 1.4 mile time and comparing it to other times I've seen in the same sort of league I'd guess it'd be capable of doing it in 5.5, easily under 6.

oh, evil, those 268 cams aren't suitable for use with a supercharger.....you should have got 248SC cams...

The Jury is still out on the cams Phat. I remember you advising me in the last post I made about them, and I know that you know your poo.

My mate had them in his SC VR6 before and his car seemed so much more awsome with them fitted.

I'm just looking forward to chucking the box in to be honest.. The cams worked out to stupid money when I bought both together, so I thought why not?

What are the gearbox codes for the VR6 Golf and Corrado?

Any other VWs use the 02A?

Can you squeeze and extra 6th speed into the casing?

golf box is CCM, I think corrado is CHN. BUT, it appears that all UK cars have the 3.3 final drive, and the 3.6 in the corrado was an american thing.

yes, you can squeeze a 6th in , from either gemini (now ricardo motorsport) or quaife. only problem with the quaife is that you can't choose the ratio of the 6th, so if you went for a 3.9 or a 3.6 final drive you might end up with a short 6th.

so there no point in getting a UK corrado box over a vr6 box? or are there other differences?

reason i ask is at some point i'm gonna need a new box (not much syncro left [:$] ), will only be buying a second hand one i expect, is there any point in getting the 'rado one or shall i just get whatever i can find?

take it 'rado boxes plug straight in and don't effect the EDL(thats runs of the brakes if i'm correct)?
