    Hi all,

Need to do an oil change on the MK5 Golf diesel which has a BKC code engine. I've got some oil in the garage which I think I'd already bought for the service (probably bought two last time I change the oil), but never used. But what I want to check is does anyone know the correct spec for the oil I should use so I can check if this is the right stuff?

    Many thanks

    Marc

For this engine you want either a 0-30W or 5-40W semi synthetic or ideally a fully synthetic!
I think the offical spec is VW 505.01 or .02, I will only use shell ultra or castrol longlife

this it because of the PD engine internals are rough on the mechanicals, and some lesser oils will have less protection

    Oily hole in the pocket

1.9 TDI in my wife's Golf firstly used a Castrol Deisel Oil, then VW changed to it's own brand and it's mighty expensive!! $110 AUD for 5litres. ( Around 70 UK pounds)

While "my wife's" TDI was under warranty I was forced to buy the VW oil while the VW service departments we still using the Castrol for servicing.
