my speedo has a strange fault, I finally put the cable in and connected it up but now i get a nice smooth reading when im accelerating or cruising, so basically with my foot on the accelerator, but as soon as i lift off to change gear etc, it drops to 0mph then once back in gear it waves around then works fine again!! i thought that the speedo was purely mechanical, how does it know my foot is off the accelerator!!
i have a fault on mine a bit like this, not as erratic but in normal drive mode its fine,on the over run or foot off the gas it waves around, and when cold it wont work at all till i either tap the dash or leave it long enough to come to life i was told its the square plastic part at the clock end of the cable thats bent,or it could be the way the cable is routed, maybe its a bit tight or not sat right etc, never got round to fixing it or even tinkering with it though
i had this same problem, dont know what it was tho i just removed the cable again and cleaned it made sure everythig was ok and refitted it now it reads fine, hope ya get it sorted tho
well this is the third time i have changed the cable 2 GSF and 1 VW, im not too convinced that its clicked into place on the back of the speedo, but one minute it works the next it doesnt!!
it can be a nightmare to click them in place ,i found getting someone to push the cable from under the bonnet as your feeding it on to the speedo help a lot,you should be able to feel the click its a tight fit and can be difficult with just your fingers did those new cables cure it at first
I get my girlfriend to push the speedo cable back in as her hands are smaller! If you come off the throttle slowly does it work? Maybe it's only slightly out the back and moving back and forth?
with 3 new cables and thats not fixed it,and if wills idea dont fix it ,not much left but the speedo its self then,do they not have little weights in them? ive never taken one apart ,have you not got spare clocks to try
