dcoe’s on a mk1??

    im quite new to golfs but one thing i have noticed is that nobody runs carbs? any reason why??


    im looking at getting a mk1 gti nd the first mod in mind was dcoe carbs, has this been done befor??

    Quite a few people do run carbs. I think they sound awesome, better than using K-jet. Here's an old pic of my MK2 16v. Twin DCOE 45s Alpha mappable ignition. Its a bit different now. I will put a new pic up tomorrow.

    looks sweet mate, what is best to go for on the 1.8 40's or 45's ??? i will probably not have any management tho.


    good to see some garden hose in there too lol ;)

    Any given gutter, any given day.
    A lot don't run carbs on the 8v's because they end up very close to the bulkhead, and right above the nice hot exhaust. 16v's have the inlet at the front instead, so carbs are more popular.......

    yep,as tsc says theyre not ideal on an 8v although you can fabricate heat shielding and
    modify the scuttle tray to become an airbox.

    theres a few guys on here running carbed 8v's i think.

    i was another that succomned to the carbed valver route [:D]

    how much power increase would carbs give then on a 16 valve??

    how much do they cost? they look easy to install but what about setting them up??

    or is it just plug and play??

    I got rid of the garden hose now. It was an old fuel return pipe. :p

    lol anyway still looks great [:D]like i said i dont know much about the dubs so wots the x flow??

    gary_k.. are you coming to the 16v rr day at Stealth in August, so we can see how much better these carbs are? ;)

    a cross flow head is from the beetles i think,so that the carbs are sat at the front [:D]

    this is an 8v xflow head, but with throttle bodies not carbs

    Ya know. A few little toys hear and there. Yours has been bored out though hasnt it? Hmmmm......... Mine is only a standard 1.8 bottom end. [:$]

    mine was only an 1800 on 45's too,gave 140 sommet at the wheels,
    in fact i should whip the head off to see if there was any work done to it really! [:s]

    Ah, Isnt it a 1.8l 16v day? :lol: You sure thats allowed? Im expecting about 180BHP at the flywheel. ( i hope) Dont laugh if its not anywhere near. [:^(]

    Just a 16v day, no restriction on induction methods or capacity :p
