I was thinking of one similar to this:

    http://www.ccw-tools.com/product.as...T_ID=0&P_ID=2523&btnProduct=View+More+Details

Sounds reasonable value. Belt drive, 3 HP, 150 litre etc....plus basic air tools with it.

Do you need to pay more for cast iron cylinders over alloy?
For what I want, I doubt it.

Ideally I want a 'fixed' compressor - that is one with feet I can bolt to the floor in the loft-space of the garage, as opposed to one on wheels.

I don't fancy a wheeled one wheeling itself out of the loft-space onto me or either of the cars in there. Thnat, would spoil my day.

I think you mean running a 16amp. Most can run on 13 but somtimes take more to start the motor up so it pops the fuse.

3-Phase is completely different, Not for home use really.

As Chris says, What tools are you going to be running? Drills eat air as does spraying etc.
As for wheels, Everyone will have 2 wheels at one end and feet at the other with the size you are talking about.
The bigger ones have no wheels and needs to be bolted to the ground to stop them going walkies. I bolted mine to a couple of pallets with some foam to take the shock out as the unit kept flooding when i put it in, Its pretty big though.

    Basics such as:
    Pumping up tyres,
    Blowing out tapped blind holes,
    Using an air ratchet.

    Lesser uses:
Use of an air impact gun,
    Use of an air drill,
    Use of an air grinder.

It will need the flow capacity to run air grinders or drills when required, which probably won't be that often, but I'd want it to do it when I did decide to...so the motor drive and tank capacity must be good for a few hours solid porting and smoothing duties (air tools smaller and lighter than my electric versions).
