Dash is a different shape, we have a better handbrake surround etc. front bumper is different, rear bench upright is different.

Other than that and the boot of course they're pretty much the same. :)

    They handle better too...

And apparently the boot makes it more aerodynamic and in theory it should be quicker than a Golf of the same spec (even thogh it is about 50kg heavier due to the boot)...read this somewhere.

    Just some food for thought...

more aerodynamic? i cant see that being true - just a myth me thinks.

    anyway the actual 0-60 of a 1.6 in a golf 3 is 14secs, 14.5 secs for a vento - proves my point :)

Which part mate? Is that why the blower vents are a nicer more round shape?

The aerodynamic advantage, if any, is only going to make any difference at high speed. 0-60 is bound to be slower for a Vento as it's heavier.

The Vento is by far, less quick, and I can hardly see it being more stable at high speed. Having driven both for a good while, I can say that the Vento does not handle as good as the Golf. Although, I'll also say that the Vento is easier to oversteer, which is good... but yeah... Golf is far quicker.

How many Mk3 Golfs have they run in the last few years in the VW cup?

Proves the point...Vento's obviously handle better! ;)

Dash Pic! I personally dont know this for sure but its been true for all the golfs I have seen to date...the blower vents are a lot better in the Vento....This is also true in the Bora compared to the MK4 IMO :p

Dont know much about MK3s but the handling issue comes up on MK4s too, and might be useful in discussing booted Golfs as a whole.

Having driven both I can honestly say the Bora is definetly far more refined, less boomy (boot very much sealed off rather than part of the car - suspension, wheels, tyres etc in another room if that makes sense).

Magazines do say the handling is more balanced because of the weight, and the suspension stiffer - the car as a whole more sporty to drive. Personally, I think there is very little in it but the saloon feels more grown up and I definetly preffer it.

    no, mines a '93.

and yeah, vento's handle better than mkIII's and bora's handle better than mkIV's...it's physics.
reason i went for a golf over a vento...simple, a) i found a nice golf, b) there weren't any vento vr6's for sale near me, and c) i prefer the looks of the golf to the vento (mainly front end - and couldn't be bothered to swap it).
but i'd never buy a mkIV golf, but would buy a bora.

A big difference IMO is that they are not as common! It is the same with any booted one. I have been driving a Golf for the last 4 weeks as the Jetta is off the road, Golfs are everywhere! I can go for days without seeing a Jetta or Vento. Boras are a lot more popular, but not as many of them about as MK4 Golfs.
One of the main reasons I wanted a Jetta over a Golf.
