Now Lainey has her Mk4 Anni the 100 Avant is just sitting there. It really is a smashing car to drive. Road holding and handling are both superb. But at 23 years old it needs loads of work, so that's why Lainey bought the Mk4. New down-pipe, new catalyst, new CV Joints, new discs and pads, front and rear, new 225 x 50 x 16 tyres, new door locks, on 2 doors, etc. As I am a pedantic old fart, the down pipe will have to be Audi OEM 500+ (No breakers over here to look for a good 2nd hand one!) Aftermarket catalyst, ATE discs and pads, Dunlop Tyres, will run to about 1200 + Door locks off ebay are about 50 each. I have fitted two already and I hate the job as Audi door panels are a sod to work on! By the time I have put it right the bills would add up to about 2500+ which is almost what she paid for the Golf, hence the new car. Plus I don't have the energy any more to fight with the massive and heavy components on the Audi. Trouble is there are loads of good bits on the car: 16" BBS RG forged wheels and 15" steels with almost new winter tyres. They are 5 x112 of course. Complete set of new petrol pipes last year at a cost of 500. New Sachs shockers front and rear. 2 year old Sachs clutch, release bearing and slave cylinder. Dave rebuilt Mk3 Golf rear callipers and Goodridge hoses. New middle silencer. New OEM water hoses and OEM flanges. So what shall I do?
Possible one of the best cars i've ever owned (Had 2 over the years 2.0 8v petrol and 2.5 TDI (Straight 5)) The TDI was a proper tank, bought cambelt kit for it and towbar but never fitted ran it on 18" V10 Phaeton alloys. Sold it last year with 230k to a guy from Latvia for same price i paid for it 4 years ago. Only Sold as 6 speed box would have need attention in the future.
Agree ... too much time and money to invest to refurbish it. May be worth more in parts, if you have energy to break it ?
