OK i should have been more specific - oil pressure at the gauge does not mean that you have oil pressure and a hydrodynamic oil film across the turbine shaft - this can take from 5 seconds up to 30 seconds in some instances. Increasing the speed and load on the engine but without excessive turbine speed will reduce the time taken for this to happen. Additionally, you should try and get heat into the oil as quickly as possible - again increased engine speed and load will assist this. The reason i would guess TT would recommend this is that it is more reliable foir them to get people to do this can risk them shooting off with a cold engine and overspeeding the turbine when cold.
you raise the point that this has never hurt your turbo - it maybe hasn't caused failure but how do you know if you could have reduced wear through a different warming process? Unless you've had it to bits and compared it to a turbo that has undergone a different warm-up sequence how do you know?
if you're happy doing that, fire away. i'll stick with what i know as i deal with this all day every day.
besides, you shouldn't mess with a pi55 stained vagrant ;)

Every manual for my past 3 mk2 golfs have recommended driving the car straight away.
Reason being is that an engine will only wear when cold.
Drive the car straight off at reasonable speeds and it will improve the life of your engine.
