Following from http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190147, I am seeking out the cheapest 10W/40 semi-synth engine oil. The Asda stuff is SL/CF quality rating, ie suitable for both petrol and diesel. Do other supermarkets do it and can they undercut them? I've just bought 5l of 10W/40 from a motor factor, for 13.20 inc VAT and I'm wondering if I can beat that price anywhere other than ASDA.
PS Asda is 12.50 but that's for 4.5 litres, not 5, so the equivalent price adjusted to 5 litres quantity is 13.89.
It was only about 10 last time I bought Synta Silver from the main dealers! It's all about the Asda SmartPrice 10W50 5litres for about 3 []
Never seen smart price oil for 3, are you talking about the 20W/50 mineral oil (which is about 4.99 I think?) And as I understand things, VW don't do Quantum any more anyway, and even so it were never 10. Kinda need accurate figures on this (state VAT too), if thats ok?
I do mean the 20W50 yes which I'm sure was under 5, closer to 4 And I could swear the last lot of Synta I bought was little more than 10 alas I cannot find the reciept so I'll just hush
Last time I went in VW the synta oil is pricey! I use Comma stuff now from local; usual 1.8T oil is 17 for 5 litres for fully synth, and VR6 oil for semi-synth is 13 for 5 litres. Tesco Value do oil, but i'm sure its the same rating as what Jolfa is on about When the VR6 engine starts to go pap i'll use tesco value oil
Cheers for the info. Can anyone beat 13.20 inc VAT for 5 litres of Comma 10W/40 semi synth, available from a motor factor near me?
It was just something I'd heard on here in a different thread, I haven't been to a VW dealer for a while so I couldn't say either way myself. Maybe it depends on your local dealer. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1735418
Yep, Quantum Synta should be less than 10 on trade... sometimes as low as 7 when discounted on offer.
