Deploying both stabilisers correctly actually lifts the front wheels of the truck off the ground and considerably alters the centre of gravity / load footprint of the truck. Also, the use of both stabilisers means the vehicle will not "lean" on the suspension, therefore any sign of movement from the truck can be taken to mean impending disaster - stop what you are doing! Yes, the pressure is still on one side, but that's the way it will always be using one of these vehicles.

The "large load on a tiny surface" is true of any surface, not just on that sea wall. I still think that despite, as you rightly point out, the wall being designed to work laterally, it will still have more strength than the loose surface to the side of the wall. Also, by positioning the truck reasonably close to the wall limits load on the crane arm and is the most level way to park the vehicle.

To be honest, I don't use my HIAB licence often, but I did use it on Friday, I was delivering pallets of bricks. It's pretty challenging when you aren't used to it and it makes the day pass really quickly. Plus I get a better rate for it [:D]
