When we decided to get a T4, we knew we would need to have a wider driveway. So we set about changing the current layout of the high maintenance front garden to a nice simple low maintenance double block paved drive. The garden\drive started out like this, courtesy of Google Maps: 1 Aug 2012 12:21 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr The tarmac was very poor. Very thin, only top layer, roots pushed it all up from tree and hedges. We started to chop down the tree and hedge an ended up with this. We also ripped up the existing tarmac. Lots of trips back and forth to the tip. the guys there accused us of ripping up the M6!! We decided to do as much prep work as possible to get the price as low as possible for the rest of the work that was required. 31 Jul 2012 20:27 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr 31 Jul 2012 20:28 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr 3x2 slabs had to go as well. Back breaking, lifting and shifting these bad boys. No wonder they are pretty much banned. Broke my back. 1 Aug 2012 21:08 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr 1 Aug 2012 21:08 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr This is how the driveway stayed up until this Monday. We decided to get some pros in to lift the stump, roots, and lay new hardcore and block pave the driveway. So from the 1st August until this week, we have had to put up with the above. This all changed, and over the past 2 days the transformation has happened. Today, this is the state of play: 11 Sep 2012 16:31 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr 11 Sep 2012 16:31 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr 11 Sep 2012 16:32 by LukeDeakin, on Flickr The guys are advising me that they will finish the drive tomorrow. 3 days is pretty good going imo.
Nice. I have all my front block paved. I can get 6 cars on my drive IF I didnt want to get in any lol
Well, I'll just go an kick them out and move in then huh? You obviously didn't see my previous man cave thread, which is accessible from the rear of the house. See here: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?223389-New-Man-Cave-Double-ish-Garage Edit: balls. The pics aren't hosted any more. Ill put them up again.
Ahhhh ... and there was me expecting the next stage to be four posts and a roof extension lol Looking good
I dug a stump out when building my other garage. Pain in the backside aren`t they ! took about an hour.
well id also have to build a double garage at the back, then front garage can be my wiring cave. gotta keep up with the jones' as they say
Ouch, yes. The stump was a nightmare, thats why i gave up and left it for the digger in the end. The stumps from the large bush were bad enough. I dug 3 of them out with a pick axe and gave up again. Too many roots from the tree that were intertwined with it all as well. I have a sideway/lean to as well, which is mostly a utlity area as well as having all the car cleaning gear/jet wash in there. Ideal would be a side garage too, but beggers cant be choosers.
yah its not liek id be unhappy with all that tbh, my garage is in a block miles away so no power. what i really miss about our first place is the garage, it was a maisonette on top of the garage which had both power and running water, even had a sink! but unfortunately only a single bed so we had to move on eventually.
Next challenge for me is trying to get the access road to the garage useable. I didn't mind driving the track car up there, but wouldn't drive a minter through the brambles. Need a petrol strimmer/mower. I might just douse the entire area in caustic soda too. Lol
