1990 mkII 1.6 driver, just drove it 70 miles. was fine at start of journey apart from high clutch biting point and a whine (worse in 3rd and 5th), then started popping out of 3rd occasioanlly, then started popping out of 5th, and by the time i got home i could only get 2nd! managed to force into 1st and reverse to park it, but was making a clunking sound as i passed biting point. dead box? dead clutch? or both?
guess i best hunt for a second hand box.....which box's can i go for? will a gti or 1.8 driver ones work (to widen my chances of finding a cheapo one)?
you can use both the early and late mk2 8v gti box's with the driver flywheel and clutch as the have the same spindle size. Edited by: kenn
