Right. since the 16v and 8v idea isnt going to work ;c)
going to just put in another 1600cc Engine. i have found one for good price

So i have a cylnder head i know is good which was rebuit recently.
and i have a choice of boxes Driver Gearbox, 8v GTI Box and a 16v Box.

What one would be best to put back in ?

I would go for a Driver gearbox. Apparently it has taller gears
than a 8V GTI gearbox, and the 16V gearbox is a bit taller still.

I can get 60mph in 2nd at about 6000 rpm which is useful.

16v will be the shortest of the lot. The driver box will have uneven gaps in the ratios so you'll have to rev right out in some gears to come in on cam in the next gear. The 8v has a slightly longer 5th than the 16v so motorways wont be annoying.

I get 100 at 4000rpm with a driver box, excellent for relaxing high speed motorway driving. Not that I do 100 on a motorway of course

box choice depends on what you want to do with it, if you're motorway cruisin then the driver box is for you but a gti box would be better for lots of quick stop/starting
