    Good Morning!

The Other evening I attempted to change my inner drive shaft boot (driver side) on my mk3 AGG cabby

Got the drive shaft away from the gearbox easily and then got stuck I have no idea what to do after this... could not see any clips or bolts... am I blind?

Haynes manual says take to dealer...this cant be true... can it?

is it the one on the left hand side in the picture below it is a tripod cv joint
if it is you need to remove the cover on the end
    to get at the clip
i have never done one of this type
all my golf have had the normal cv joint

if it all go's pete tong you can change the hole shaft to early normal type cv

i had that idea but there is some really thick rubber washer on the drive shaft itself which would not budge!

    this is what I saw...

it looks like a 12 point nut on the end but is not! its is really shallow, only about protrudes 0.5 - 1 mm, its all curved and one piece.... I would imagine the tripod stuff is under it!

how do you get it off? any one seen anything like this before?

there's a cir-clip holding the c/v to the shaft, pop this off with 2 flat head screw drivers (fiddly job), when you've replaced the boot refit the cir-clip or go to your local motor factors and buy a new one with tabs so you can use cir-clip pliers
