whats the craic with these? ive got a pas pump mount bolt snapped in my engine block. i think its M8 do i have to drill a pilot hole and then try and screw this thing in? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DAMAGED-SCREW-REMOVERS-SET---EASY-OUT_W0QQitemZ140298076807QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EASY-OUT-OUTS...R-SET-NEW_W0QQitemZ220302653248QQcmdZViewItem
wouldnt advise cheapo ebay ones...if they snap (which they will ) then its even harder to drill those out
those are for rounded phillips heads etc could try a reverse cut drill bit if you have to drill it anyway
not sure how that would work. anyone got a link to what will work? ps im hoping to get it by saturday
I use EZ-Outs a lot at work and even the pricey ones break from time to time creating a total nitemare = you won't drill one of them out! As PB said, don't buy cheap crap, they'll be no good. I'd advise drilling the hole for the EZ-out (use a centre punch to get it dead centre or you'll end up with a mess), using the biggest one you can fit in the bolt with 2mm of material left surrounding it, then heating the bolt with a blow lamp, then use the EZ-out.
whats hard to understand about that...drills that go in reverse might cause enough friction to spin out if it doesnt you will then have a nice hole to try some quality made easy outs...cant see any nice ones on ebay , not sure what brand are okay , but 2.99 ones are gona snap off

Let me see what make we use tomorrow before you commit to something like that, as if you break one of them in the bolt you'll have a whole different ball-game to deal with.
Ive got an M8 bolt stuck in my chopsaw at work, Dont know how it broke but there is nothing left to grab! Problem being is its a left handed thread, Do those exist the right way as in you would be doing it up (But undoing on a left thread)
Make sure you drill it straight and on centre. Then if all that hardware cr@p youre about to insert in there fails then at least you can take it up to tapping size and re-tap to original.
i found the best way to do this is to use a air pencile grinder with Ball Nosed Cylindrical Carbide Burrs like below gring the bolt out till it is just throw the threads then pick out what is left and retap the threads
If you think about it logically the bit that makes the bolt tight in the hole is the shoulder of the bolt contacting the item being held against the force of the thread trying to pull it still further in. Therefore as the part that excerts all of the pressure has broken off all that is keeping that threaded end of bolt in that hole is just the friction of the thread in the hole. You will probably spin the bolt further into the hole as you are drilling into the shaft so once you have your EZ out in place you should have less trouble getting it out than you thought. Stress head! Never think the worst scenario about a problem. You can add that to the list of what to do and not to do in life ie never ever get married etc etc, remember?
