Hi guys, I've been watching this weber... Item number: 4535591089 ... for days and at first thought I'd pay about 60 for it (seeing as I got my current one for 30) but now its 170+ !!! Trouble is I'm still tempted! Its not worth that is it??? I'f I cleaned mine up it'd look like that does, I just have NO idea where to get one of those filters from Little decision making help needed please!! (only few hours left though!)
not worth it, and theres not really any real need for the filter. you'll get carb icing probs and no benefit performance wise.
really?! I thought it was a bit on the pricey side!! (I hate early bidders!) Filter does look damn nice though
That Weber Biscuit filter is a rare item I think. Never ever knew they even made them. Looks nicer than my K&N. The whole setup is brand new I think. I would personally buy a brand new carb rather than buying second hand ones. I purchased a DMTL for 100 from "blingcrosby" and it needed a overhaul as it had a worn air bleed passage for some reason. Ebay Seller did not respond. I think someone really brought that weber carb up there becuase of the biscuit tin weber. As the whole kit is brand new it is worth the money as second hand carbs can be very hit and miss I have found. Let me name two ebay users in the last 60 days to shame: f**ksake (twin 40 webbers ,ford/ vw / golf / cars) Carbs look like they were angle grinded out. Trumpets bent. No email support. not_escorts (VW Golf MK2 GTi VAG electric windows 5 dr complete) Loom all cut so no connectors and worst of all not VAG units. No contact after complaint. Edited by: mr.rabbity
I asked where he got it from and he said he got it from some company but he cant remember the name! I still dont think its worth that at all. I dont think its new either as he's sold carbs before, just reconditioned.
You'll find cheaper ones on ebay for definate, but that carb is new not reconned from the looks of it. The Weber that came with my car was screwed so I brought another one on ebay which was screwed, then I brought a brand new DMTR from clubGTI member for 100 and all have been fine, but needs rejetting. I then rebuilt my first carb as I found the needle valve was buggered, and accellerator pump and after this it worked fine. Sold it for 130 on ebay. This is what you really wanted?? eBay Link Gonna try this on my 1.6 before my engine swap to 1.8 in the summer holidays. Much better manifold design than the OEM stock stuff. Already headwrapped my exhaust manifold since I had a biscuit filter. Hopefully I will see if this will get me pushing 90+ hamsters out of my 1.6 engine? I think it is very acheivable.
i got mine from a scrappy, took it off the car my self, look to be a couple of months old, mint condition, wiped come crap on it to make it look older and got it for 30 - possibly helped that i covered the weber stamp when i showed the scrappy owner tim
The Weber Biscuit Filter is "rare" as crap. Tell me when you last saw one. The Scirocco has the same manifold minnus the water jacket. I have heard really good things about the lynx manifold set ups and that they give a very good power hike due to their design such that cylinders 4& 1 are ported together at the manifold and 3 & 2. Also you cannot beat sidedraft performance.
On a short manifold like that you won't get the full potential of the carb, cos the fuel tends to get dumped on the outside of the curves in the manifold. For 60 quid though, it's got to be worth a try. Bloke you bought it from is an ar5e though... didn't even list what model of carb it is, and that doesn't look like a 1000 mile old carb to me...more likely he picked it up off a scrapper..
I ve got a brand new DMTL sat at home with the rubber flange aswell to mount on the inlet manifold Which i ll let go if the price is right. At the mo it is jetted for an 1800
