Hello Just looking into this what are the advantages of blanking of the EGR Valve with a blank plate kit ? and is a re-map essential? i'm running a VW Tauran PD150 Cheers Brookster
i dont know if it works with the pd engines you may or may not fallt come up try http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=&product=FMEGRBP they allso do this but it is only for the 90-115 engines http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=260302&product=FMEGRRPS or you could just take the vac hose off the egr and blank it there is plenty is posts about this on the net if you google it
found this http://www.egrvalve.co.uk/index.php?page=Purchase-EGR-Kits they do egr powerpipes and they do one for 130-150 as well
the mod dosent do much other than stop the inlet getting coverd in soot wich sticks to the oil in the inlet could be a good thing if you drive it with a lot of part throttle better going for a remap
Wel i have bypassed my egr with a race pipe and i have notice alot of difference on performance and fuel ecom and also no more smoke either so i think its a good thing plus also dont even get any warning light on dash as some people say. CAT BY PASS this weekend and miltek going on
a touran, being the 16V 140 ps version Brookster?? don't even try it the ecu picks up the fault of as negative flow though egr, throwing light on 'mk 5' engines need to have map altered to cut down via the map requesting less of a duty cycle as for kits , just a bit of 2/3mm steel cut to size + 2 gaskets (or original + sealant) does the job on pre mk5 generation engines this cuts down on the dirty air consumed in the combustion (helps emissions) , blocking off increases flow through air mass, normally double at idle but it's clean air
VW actually do a black plate that fits and it's only a couple of quid. Advantages is that the EGR gets very sooted up and it a common point of failure - especially on high mileage cars and ones using supermarket fuels. Will give you a slight performance increase. The only real disadvantage is a shudder as you shut the engine off and the other thing the EGR does is act as an anti-shudder damper. You won't get a fault code with the older 8v PD engines in this country but as above you may need the map adjusting on the later ones - in this case I would just go for a decent remap too to make it worth it!
PD140 Yes that's mine , keep forgetting the last too i had were the PD150 Models pre - 07 its a company car anuway and it goes back next April so will wait until then when i get my own and ditch the company car.
Just looking on another thread and found this pic which shows the EGR take off on the Exhaust Manifold. Must surely give better performance if you remove and blank off inc re-map.
