I'd say for the amount of time you use a scissor jack probably not worth lugging the thing round in your boot all the time. But I guess if you like gizmos it could be useful.

Looks like a negative on the electric jack so! I dont want to kill the man! As for the trolley jack, hard to know, perhaps, a trick alloy light one, hes near 70 and still likes messing with cars.

Maybe get him one of the 12v cigarette lighter impact guns Brian. Make it easy for him to knock off the wheel nuts if he ever gets a puncture?

    hydraulic scissor jack from Westfalia

I carry a hydraulic scissor jack from Westfalia – cost about 40

    http://www2.westfalia.net/search/in...uchbegriff_fact_finder=hydraulic+scissor+jack

It's much more stable than a conventional standard jack and unlike a trolley jack doesn't take up too much space (fits easily inside spare wheel) – also much easier to use, pumps up like a normal hydraulic pillar jack, rather than having to turn an awkward screw like a normal scissor jack (guaranteed knuckle skinner!)

Best all-rounder for normal spare wheel use, I reckon ;)

To be fair though, the VW `Widowmaker` jack is only designed to get the car off the floor enough to change a wheel. You certainly shouldn`t be using it as a primary jack/support for working under the car.

That's not bad. Might be a compact alternative for taking to trackdays. I struggle to fit the big trolley jack in the car. Have you had it long? How's it stood up to the test of time and has it had much use?
