Hi, has anyone here purchased a electric supercharger? Such as this one...

    http://www.potn.co.uk/p1542000.htm

it looks very intreging and it would be cool to have. Just seeing if anyone has had any experience with them, as in if it works or not.

    Thanks.

To get 40 bhp you would need a fan as big as your house with power supply to match.

If it was that simple would all the manufacturers not be doing it?

lmao, these things are just soooooooooooo funny, its an ebay special. bet its loud as well. lmao. Had an injection cooling fan on an uno turbo once (as standard) when that kicked in it sounded like a hair dryer, still it probably moved more air than this contraption.

 It's the silliest gimmiky thing i've ever seen!

Just found this on FAQ's on that site, "will this fit a saxo 1.1i????and how much bhp will it gain from this product???????????"

    A. "The Generation 2 supercharger will fit the Saxo 1.1 and generate boost throughout the entire rev range, Gains to approx 14 Bhp within the power band." [:s]

Surely that will almost double the output of one of those French things. Noticed that most of the FAQ's are from owners of French cars!

Though I doubt there are any commercially available ones that do an ounce of good, it is theoretically possible to make one that works.

    Wait!

If, as the one in the link says, it only operates at full throttle, the battery drain is only when 'flat-to-the-floor' accelerating. Yes, briefly your alternator will be made to work harder, true. But the power gain comes from the increase in fuel flow that comes with the increased airflow, IF AND ONLY IF, your ECU allows any more fuel flow beyond the normal max rate. You'll use more fuel, briefly, which may stress your engine unacceptably, you may get pinking from the increased intra-cylinder compression, and other problems that I haven't thought of.

This power gain, though, may well offset the increased load on the alternator, by some margin, not necessarily v. big. Also the fan speed would seem to be rather critical, and would need to be matched to each engine to ensure it produced more airspeed, not a restriction. Tricky, but not impossible, after all, real turbos/superchargers can do it.

Go ahead laugh. But if you do, please point out the flaw(s) in my logic.

P.S. I'd like to be wrong here!

    Pete

it could work but you'd be looking at something like a 40kw motor at full boost

now a 50bhp electric motor is a monster, that's why the electric supercharger is just a load of rubbish
