Has the cable got trapped under the car or the wheels?

    That would account for both?

    What car btw?

If the cable is free then it may be a lining has come off a brake shoe and jammed, locking the wheel. Can you try reversing to see if it frees off?

Just one side locked or both?

Can you jack it up + check?

Get access to the rear of the handbrake (under the plastic console inside the car) & undo the 2 cables with a 10mm spanner (should be in the tool kit) if the H/brake wont lift and the rears are locked then (as said above) something is pulling on the cables, set them free and sort it out tomorrow.

Has anybody work on the rear brakes/bearings recently? If the bearing has been over tightened the first longish journey will see them over heat and bind up, one of our trainees did this to a customers car a few years back [:$]

sorry guys my phone died. all good though i got a lift of my mate and im home now :)

both wheels are locked. reverse did nothing. we jacked it up but couldnt see anything visibly wrong. the wheel bearings/brakes havent been touched.

im getting the car picked up tomorrow and taken to a garage. even the mechanic was puzzled as to why both wheels locked.

i cant see it being a problem with the cable as one minute it was fine and the next minute it locked tight. it locked harder than i can do with the handbrake on lol. it would take quite a bit of force for something to pull on the cable that hard. its really strange. [:s]

the only thing i can think of is voodoo

hmm it appears that the lining had fallen off one of the shoes and locked up the offside rear wheel. the handbrake cables are also in need of changing.
a thank you to everyone who tried to help.

Ain't that the truth. I am still waiting on various cockney eel munchers fronting up a pint for my efforts in helping them out. [:^(]

They have got a cheek calling us Scots tight. [:x]
