Engine code location on 2E

Hi peeps,

done some searching but still unsure where the engine code on my mk3 2L motor is located.
Its not where this picture states


The block looks the same as mine.... I have a code to the left of where the dipstick tube enters the block, but is not the same as my documentation.

Any ideas - pls let me know - thanx

 

That’s where it should be

 

that where it was on my old 2E, try sanding the area with a fine grit sand paper.

 

There is a perfectly formed semi circle where the engine number should be...
