So, got about 2 miles from home yesterday having driven about 25miles from work and my yellow light starts flashing. it's the one that indicates your glowplugs are up to temperature so that you an start the engine.

I've found out that this is the engine management light and means there is something wrong with the ecu (from the manual)

The thing is though that the car seems to be driving just fine, still accelerates plenty fast, cruises beautifully and is fine from cold right up to when it's at temperature.

It's due a service in 1000 miles though, reckon that might have anything to do with it?

Also it's been remapped in the past, is this likely to cause any issues when it's plugged into a VW dealers computer for a diagnostic check?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No, nowt to do with the service, just means a dtc is flagged up. 1551 or Vagcom time!

Fault could be something reasonably covert, e.g. brake light switch [I should check it]

Afaik, remaps are undetectable by Vag diagnostics, but don't quote me.

Ah Ok, do you reckon I should take it to a dealer, or just anyone garage with a diagnostic system?

I think I know of a place local to me that does it but i'm slightly worried that they won't have as much knowledge of the fault codes a dealer. also cost comes into it, but i'd rather pay more and get the job done properly... On the other hand, I don't want to pay a premium at a dealer for the same service as a specialist.

    Ah what a conundrum!

Tough call. Any garage with the equipment should have information of the codes - the two go hand in hand like a compass and a map.

This maybe advisable. Vag will charge you an hour(circa 80) despite it taking less 5mins.

Perhaps search for specialists in your area, I'm sure there's a few in Bristol.

Right then, I'll find a specialist rather than a VW Garage.

I'm sure there's one near me.

Cheers seraph, you're like the bloody oracle in the place!

I don't know anyone on this forum to ask, I'd feel a bit cheeky asking someone to do it!

Ah well, it's booked in at my local specialist on tuesday morning now, 20 to read the faults which is pretty good I reckon. Heres hoping it'll not be too expensive a fix!
