    Hi all,

I'm gathering parts to do a 1.8t conversion in my mk2.

I would like to find out exactly what engine mounts are required. I don't want 3 vibratechnics mounts as they are too stiff, solid frount mounts are out too. I want to be able to drive the car without loosing teeth ;)

It's an 02J box and AUM engine btw.

So what do I need, G60 mounts, passat rear mount?
If anyone has part numbers it would be great

    Thanks,
    Neil.

A commonly asked question...answers just a search away...

Most people go with G60 and Mk3 Diesel rear/gearbox mount.

Believe me I've been searching ;)

So what goes where, and where do I get these mounts?

Which G60's do I need, part numbers would help. Mk3 rear mount, will this cause the cam cover to hit of the brake mater cylinder?

I can't find anything specific when I search, lots of conflicting information [:^(]

The rear mount bracket you need is a passat item (havn't got the part number to hand but its a diesel item) to give you a head start,it has 3 holes in the top (not 1,thats mk3 style )

The mk3 engine mount bracket does not fit a mk2 rear engine mount,(only a mk3 mount which only fits a mk3 subframe, putting your engine too high for you so don't go there)

Mk3 02A gearbox mount will be ok for the 02J box.

    Thanks for that

So a passat diesel rear mount.
Could I use G60's for the other mounts, these are supposed to be slightly stiffer then standard mounts?

Is it one of the parts in this diagram, diagram is a 1992 passat.

Not sure where mate as there's shed loads of info on here as thet's where I got the info to do mine. With regards to there being conflicting opinions on what to do, yes there are many ways to mount the 20v Turbo into a Mk2 and it's down to you which you choose to go with.

Here's a link to a thread where I answered the same question which may be of help as to how I did mine.

I searched alright, but cannot find a definite answer as to what mounts to use.
You can see this in the advice below, it's the same across lots of threads I've read.

I have no intention of filling mounts to make them stiffer, I want bolt on OE quality or nothing else. Putting a lot of time into the project and want to get it right first time round :)
I want something slightly stiffer then the mk2 8v mounts but nothing thats going to rattle the car to bits.

    Do I use 02A mounts, corrado, G60...I'm lost [:^(]

Like I said there are a few ways to do it and there is not a single correct way. You want OE quality and nothing else? No problem but it'll probably (IMHO) rock about too much, the setup I used is fine and doesn't rattle the car to bits. Alternatively spend hundreds on Vibratechnics for pretty much the same end result.

I did exactly what you have posted above, it works fine and has done for over 14,000 miles. It's up to you what you do and who's advice you follow. Like I've said, more than one way to skin a cat.

Can I drag this back up......

What about a Mk2 Running Mk3 front subframe with 5 stud setup from VR6 and 02a box? What mounts do I run then?

You can but when i did it i found the engine sat higher and moved over to the right (drivers side) quite a bit,the mounts were all mk3.

    Does it cause any issues?

I could run the 5 stud wishbones, steering rack, hubs and associated parts on a MK2 subframe though yes?

Yes,much better to mount them on the mk2 S/frame
For what its worth i also fitted all the mk3 powersteering parts to the mk2 column and linked that up to the mk4 pump so i can use green fluid. You just need a few parts from a Seat toledo, then it all bolts in :p

You need the U/J which fits the mk2 column and mk3 rack & the 2 pipes linking it all up.
I understand that the colour of the p/s cap tells you what fluid it needs,ie red for mk2 & green for mk3.
What steering parts did you use on the mk2 vr? (seems like it was ok for you though)

MK3 UJ is what you want for MK3 and late corrado/passat rack. its the rack seals you need to worry about with the red/green fluid, pas pipes eals are easy to replace but rack ones not so much
pumps work with either, i have a mk3 pump on mk2 rack and pipes, works great with red ATF fluid
