Recently read on here that Etka 5 was the last one to work on 1024 x 768 resolution, which is the highest my laptop will manage. Obtained a copy, and it's too big for my screen! Can the resolution be changed from inside Etka, or was what I read wrong? I also read that there was a program which would make your screen run at a higher resolution than it was designed to - would this work on a laptop? Any ideas where to get the program from?

    TIPS FOR WORKING AT 1024x&768

If your monitor only supports 1024x768 resolution do not dispair! ETKA will still run just fine and you will still be able to exploit its functions, but these tips may help you on your way.

Once in the VW model select screen, the following VW models are accessed by pressing the down arrow on the keyboard followed by 'Enter':
    TR [transporter]
    TRSY [transporter synchro]
    T2 [type 2]
    T2SY [type 2 synchro]
    T3 [type 3]
    VE [vento and jetta]
    VESY [vento and jetta synchro]
    1200 [beetle]

To zoom to a masked part of an illustration, simply click on the 'Functions' button [upper right hand side of screen], and then activate 'Illustration Zoom'.

To scroll through the parts listing for a particular illustration, simply click on the 'Page Text' button [uppermost on the screen].

To close any window of which you cannot see the 'ESC' button, simply press 'ALT F4' on your keyboard.

To switch between ETKA and your other Windows programs, press the 'Microsoft' button on your keyboard [between 'Ctrl' and 'Alt'] to reveal the Taskbar.

Remember that ETKA is the excuse you always needed for that 19" TFT monitor!!!

TSC, to get your laptop to run higher resolutions, right click on the desktop and select properties.

Click the settings tab and then the advanced button.

Click on monitor tab and click properties.

Select driver and then update driver.

Select the advanced option and next.

Then select "don't search, I will choose the driver to install" and click next

Untick show compatible drivers and you should get a list of all the monitor types.

Select your manufacturer, or the standard monitor types and then select a monitor for flat panel 1280x1024 or above.

Install that and then go back to the display properties. You should now be able to use higher resolutions.
The screen will be bigger than the laptop screen and you can scroll around with your mouse.
Now you can now install ETKA etc no probs.

Than just go back to your normal resolution when you are not using ETKA.

    Hope that helps.

And cheers Harry too - I was sure there was something I remembered doing like that on my old laptop, where you could scroll around an oversized desktop - will have to give that a go!
