My second 8v digi would hit the limiter in top gear on a level road :)

    That's with 195/50 r15 tyres.

My Road Angel shows about 5 mph less than indicated speed.

Also, when we did the Bruntingthorpe Golf+ thrash the Road Angel showed exactly the same speed as the Golf+'s Datron Vbox GPS timing gear [8D]

This is my second golf gti 8v, the first was a '87 5dr and that would not go over 110 no matter how hard I tried, however my current GTi as a few people have said feels a lot more free and loose then the other engine, pulls strong in every gear and will hit the 120mph mark on the dials easily enough, never carried on to see if it goes any further, but to be honest when do we do those sorts of speeds?

All I look for is a fun factor around town, good handling and brakes and something that isnt a slouch, which thegti certainly is not. ;)

Careful about what you admit to on here or the road safety facists will be after you.

    120mph 89 8v digi, 3 door.
Downhill, wind behind, leaning forward and bouncing up and down.
Brown pants fast in a car that was as unstable as mine!!

You can achieve a better top end with a 4+e box as fitted to the 1.8 carb models. On my old 120mph clocks I had the needle touching the reset odometer button, but with my 160mph clocks I've seen it read 130mph at just under 6000rpm.

Managed to take this picture off the clock.

People will probably say its been done of axle stands or something, but it was actually on the ground.

I was just gonna say have you changed the clocks coz on my 1990 digi the numbers only go to 120!

Out of interest ive had it off the clocks plenty of times 5th gear at 6000rpm going to the Ulster Rally most recently.. Didn't let it run to the limiter though.

Whats the ratios of the 020 box? id like to work out the theoretical top speed.

I know on mk1 golfs and early Scirocco GTI's they were s'posed to do
20mph for every 1krpm in top, my scirocco hit the 6700krpm limiter in
top almost every night/morning on the way home from work (not a
    standard engine though).

137mph i worked it out as, the speedo needle had a constant bend in it from always hitting the odo reset knob [:D]
