As the comments say, it's great that the 10 minute barrier was finally broken before they tarmac the whole thing. Really interested to see what runs up there next year. Single seaters with no power restrictions!!
i went there , and the Big Rigs are the best to watch . To see a Tractor unit doing a Scandinavian flick..feck me thAts a memory I'll hold for ever... and the lack of air at the top.. oh my lord it's worse than you can imagine.
Wow impressive and good link to the car. If he wipes out then a lot of people could not be going home, ****
Are they normal road tyres? He looked like he was losing a fair bit of time on the gravel section, but very quick on the tarmac...
Normal road tyres? Dont think so. This is serious competition. Shed loads cash. Went there to spectate, awesome. Took a V10 camper van to the summit. Man its high...
In actual fact, they're these tyres: http://www.falkentire.com/Tires/Light-Truck-SUV/Ziex-S-TZ01-7 You can see just make out the writing on the sidewall in this picture: Thats even more ballsy than I thought there's got to be a better tyre choice than that surely?
ha! , still cant see why anybody would use cooking road tyres on a 100K++ race car, but I have been wrong before...
out of interest I have had a little dig; According to his press release Rod Millen used : Ventus F200 race tires (slicks) Only $1000 to enter, something of a bargain in this day and age.
I did wonder about using road tyres on a car like that, the pictures in the link Matt posted threw me. If he ran on slicks, I understand why he was was braking so early on the gravel sections.
Rallying lot (who have more than one tyre available per corner) are funny in the pits. The serious ones leave the car sitting on the axle stands until the last minute they can before a stage. This helps prevent people copying their tyre choice. The 'mickey mouse' end of the pits , where we are, feel fortunate if we have four tyres that will see the stage out.......
