My mk2 is the only car in the family with a roof rack - comes in handy this time of year :)

Takes a bit more effort to de-ice in the morning than a modern car but it's worth it.

Absolutely none - GTI & E28 are wrapped up and asleep in Ireland, same goes for the E82 here in Canada.
    It's Jeep time now.

I don't want to tempt fate but we've been having a good stretch without the dreaded snow - if we get a proper dump between now and Xmas, I will post a photo of the Jeep being a snow plough.

Would you consider one of those electric heat pumps to warm the car/engine?

I used to see alot of lads on Audizine, back in the day when I was on it, fitting the heaters to cars that were normally found in colder climates.
They had a small port mounted in the bumper that they would connect the mains power from the house to.

Anyway, my festive plans are... to get it running [:D]

I'm going to buy mine a tent as the cover keeps blowing off.

Not seen or heard about these - sounds good but something I'd forget to turn on before needing to leave etc.

A heated garage would be even better but that's a distant dream for now [:D]

Camper vans have a similar idea.
