Police chiefs in Lancashire have suggested a scheme to turn speed cameras off at night!

or maybe its so they can move the cameras about, and cos they arent flashing at night you dont notice them going off and learn where they are so quickly!

I'm all for it - motorways that arent busy at night would be a good use of it I think. His comment about outside schools is all wrong though, outside a school is usually in a built up area, so why should it be turned off at night?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Will never happen here in Reading :(

Would be nice also if they set all traffic lights to flashing amber at night. I get fed up with sitting at traffic lights at 2 in the morning with sod all other cars about. Just set them to flashing amber so as to alert people that there is a junctin ahead and allow people to filter through. In parts of Italy they turn traffic lights off at about 7:00pm, it works over there so why can't it work over here???

Agree totally Yorkie, great idea. It's so frustrating sitting at a red light at night when it's obvious that nothing is coming the other way and isn't likely to...

Aye .. might just be propaganda to make us motorists think that they aren't just out to make a profit from us.

Then again, most of the Police hate revenue-cameras as much as we do.

One thing though, do you reckon that if people knew cameras were turned off at night they'd think that it was an official admission that it was okay to speed?

Not really, don't think so... If there's a road with no camera on it now, is that an admission that it's OK to speed?

Well said Jonboy. If the money used to put up/maintain scameras was used to fund more traffic police, the roads would be much safer for it...

But that would cost them money, not make them money....

it's easier for people to rob us blind.... cos the motorist is an easy target....
