Fitted Passat Top mounts and a few Qs

I fitted passat top mounts to my golf today [8v mk2] and the fit ok and it drives ok but there is one thing that is a little odd.

The old top mounts [standard VAG ones] wouldn't rotate in the suspesion turret whereas the new ones will. They dont do it if the car is jacked up but if it is resting on the floor you can turn the top plate [that goes ontop of the turret] and the damper shaft turns with it. it isnt loose enough to turn on its own but is this normal?

also the new mounts sit lower, the old ones sat about 5 - 7 mm pround of the top of the turret but the new ones only have around 1mm clearance.

sounds like you aint done the nut up tight..it sits lower cus the old ones were getting saggy

 

The Passat ones are supposed to sit 10mm lower anyway. Bonrath sell these are "lowering" top mounts. They even have the VAG part number still on them

how tight should they be, like really tight? i could undo them with a screw driver in one slot after i slackened the spring off with compressors, so i only did them back up that tight.

 

tight as you can get them...sensibly..you can nip em up in situ
