So I've picked up a couple of Ford Recaro seats locally for £250 as I thought it was a decent deal.
Possibly out of a Fiesta RS Turbo? But I'm not sure.
I'm now looking to have these altered using the runners from my original seats and re-trim the Recaro ones.
Is it difficult to convert these to fit my Mk2?

They are nice and £250 is a steal
I would imagine that some cutting and welding will be required, in fact, quite a lot of cutting and welding. Might be a lot easier to make new subframes for the recaros which bolt to the floor. I did this in my BMW and even cut out the original runners.

There’s a guy on Facebook who sells recaro to mk2 runners isn’t there? Just bolt the bases into the seats and bingo

Think 53fab did universal subframes, can unbolt the ford runners and bolt to them, may need universal runners for adjustment though. They bolt in the runner guides and front adjuster point.
I had 53fab TT frames in my mk2, very good, seats had runners that bolt to the plate. 20210917_175059.jpg
I've also used runners from a metro for fitting to bucket seats, just cut the front handle bit to fit and rewelded. But they are rare nowadays.

That would be the preferred option if possible. Any idea if he still does them?

    Thanks!
    I've sent them a message.
£125 for two seems a good price if they're just straight bolt on.

the problem with these is they're not standard/universal recaro flat bottom bases like MK2 are. they have an extra frame welded on which the Ford subframes then bolt to. One thing you can do is chop off this extra framework, then you have the same flat bottom as mk2 golf and most std recaro seats. then all you do is drop in 6 rivnuts in the pre-drilled holes and mk2 golf or aftermarket subframes will bolt right on

Do you mean, chop off these bits highlighted on the bases?

unbolt the slidey frame bit from the seat, then you'll see the extra frames welded to the seat base

    'standard' base
    recarobase.jpg

the ford base is the same apart from the extra frame welded on as I say, the 6 holes you need for the standard subframes are there as well just need to add nuts/rivnuts/whatever and jobs a goodun.

You can of course fab something up to mate to the Ford frame, main issue is the added height of the ford frame means your base has to be quite low to keep the seat height about the same if that makes sense

I bought genuine sparco subframes previously for the mk2 with r100, over £100 each and were extremely disappointing, basically 2 bits if angle and some m10 bolts 20210920_184354.jpg

Just got delivery of two of these from 53fab (£137 incl. delivery).
Thanks to dodgy for pointing me in the right direction.
I've stripped the runners off the Ford Recaro's.
Don't think I can use the Ford runners that were attached, as they're two different heights, but I'll double check.
If not, I'll have to buy some universal runners once I chop off the extra framework (as suggested by rubjonny) that Ford add to the base of the seats.

Ford recaros will be a nice touch when done, if you end up needing any bits off the mk2 seat bases and don't want to chop up your original ones let me know as I've got some GTI seat frames in storage. Also got some tartan seat fabrics if you are looking to retrim the centres of the Ford seats

Started cutting the extra Ford frames off the seats.
I've bought some universal runners off eBay.
I'll need to buy some Rivet Nuts next.
I could just bolt the runners onto the holes that are there, but that means the runners won't be flush with the outer edge of the seats (they stick out a bit).
So I'm going to drill new holes a bit in from the outside edge of the seat to allow the outside edges of the runners to fit flush with the outside edge of the seat.
I'll post on here again when I test fit them.

Didn't have to drill any holes into the base of the seats. Just used the existing ones. Installed the rivet nuts, then connected the runners. I've put a couple of holes through the fabric on the base, then bolted through with the silver spacers that come with the runners to hold the fabric until I get them re upholstered.
Next step is to drill holes into the new subframes and bolt the seats to them. IMG_20231210_132951.jpg

The only modification I had to make to the runners was to use a round file and make the rear holes slightly larger to allow for a bit of movement, in order for the bolts to line up with the rivet nuts on the base of the seat.
As you can see on the photo, the one on the right has been filed out. The one on the left is how it looked before (smaller hole).

Good progress! Looking forward to the results. We might look into this option for the new GTI project. Currently in the shop for the new rotors and tires from 4Wheelonline and interior mods will be next.

Fitted the seat to the new subframe and bolted it into the car. One down, one to go!

That's the driver's seat in as well.
Just need to take them both back out and tidy up a few rough bits on the bases, in case they rub on the fabric.
