    Any tips??

I've got the sunroof panel in the house now and its been hardening off for a few days, so i gave it a wee flat with some 1200 grit paper - worked a treat, nice n smooth.

Got G3 compound aswell, so tried it by hand, followed the instructions, damp cloth, apply to surface, spray with water occassionally - but can i get it to shine - can i fuck [:x]

It just wont get rid of swirl marks or faint lines [:x]

Its been in the house since it was sprayed on saturday evening - so should be fully hard by now eh?

I am gettin 1500 tomorrow and can get 2000 if i want, would usin those papers make the whole process a lot easier?

Its metallic black aswell, so prob the worst feckin colour [:x]

Andy - need to polish it after the G compund proces to bring out the shine....

Had to do the same ot mine. The G makes it a dull shine, then the polish will bring the shine out..

youl need a machine...it'l never shine by hand(it would on small bits)

i only use 1200 on nasty orange peel or big bits of poo, then go over it with 1500 then 2000 if your fussy

i use g3 or 3m fast cut which is more aggresive

pm me if you get stuck...i do that job all day [xx(]

It WILL SHINE BY HAND, but just takes ages to do it and you end up with no skin lieft on your fingers !!
But is easier with a mop and a darn sight quicker.. ;)

If your gonna use a mop, make sure you don't burn the paint with it, or go through it as well.

Screwfix sell the sponges and G3 compund just in case you need anymore.

Small scrtahes can be taken out by Macquires stuff, do they look like swirl marks ?

LOL - ahhhh this brings back fond memories of using the parents garage for the fortnight when they wen toff to tenerife. Turn it into a paint booth, sparyed it, then compounded it and polished it all by hand, put it back together, and then relalised the whole garage was f*cking red - the parents relaiased what ad happened !!

If you can see swirl marks in the paint under flourescnt lighting then its normally scrathes left from the compounding process. These can be cut out before polishing.

MAke sure you use the 1500 grit with a soap bar and water. The soap will stop the paper from clogging, and less scratching Andy. Happy rubbing !!! [:s] [:s]

    (I don't envy you at the moment ;) )

I always use soapy water, fairly liquid, as i have a bood that said it was best cos it makes the water cling to the surface.....

Andy You need to used 80's on a D'A make sure u get right in there with it that will get rid of your damaged paintwork  once finished with the 80's use an angle grinder that should give a really smooth finish.

You'll know your done as there are no swirls left in the panel ;)

g3 liquid on a mop will leave a good enough finish...any good wax over the top will sort out any haze

Heaters, parafin/propane space heaters - you need to get the place warm.
