For the record they're a 17mm head and they're (obviously) high
tensile - strength rating of 12.9.

You're right, flywheel bolts are 9mm socket but Rob is talking about the clutch bolts.

Yep, VW changing the clutch setup doesn't help much here.

The mk1/2 setup is "the wrong way round", the pressure plate
bolting to the crank with the M10 17mm bolts then the flywheel to
the pressure plate with the 12-point bolts which can be undone with
    a 9mm socket.

The 02A box setup (I believe that's what makes the difference here)
uses the more common setup of the flywheel bolting to the crank with
the M10 bolts and then the pressure plate to the flywheel with the
    M7 9mm 12-point bolts.

LOL- Always causes confusion the "Arse about face clutch" on the 020 set up

Anyone know the Part Number of the daft little 9mm headed flywheel bolts whilst we're on the subject?

Thanks - suspect Ford pinto bolts will work then - can be had in ARP grade for cossie YB's etc so may do the trick - will investigate further.

    Cheers

Stock 020 cover to crank bolts are stretch ones are'nt they?
Are stretch bolts graded like regular fasteners? like 12.9 for example?

Edit: will confirm the part number for these bolts tomorrow as I need
    some anyway.

Bill, I'm not sure if the pressure plate to crank bolts are stretch bolts
as there's no angular torque setting for them, just 74 lb ft. A lot of
people do say they're stretch bolts, though. I think it's probably
safest to replace them anyway, given the price. They are a 12.9
    strength rating.

just swapped the 020 2y box in my valver at the weekend and the haynes manual says to ditch the old ones and fit new (ie unstretched) ones when putting it back together...

Those crappy little M7 bolts are a bit sh1te. Think I'll be up grading mine 12.9 when I get round to doing something with the old girl ;)

Given the price I think it's worth replacing them. I have another Haynes
which suggests that they only need replacing because they come ready
    threadlocked but they're cheap anyway.

Just to confirm what it says above - the flywheel to pressure plate bolts
    are:

    N 100 134 01
    M7x1.0, 40mm length

Cost me 37p+VAT each, 9 required (although the dealership said that the
computer showed them as being required in sets of 6 and in the end
they've sold me 10 anyway!).
