I did ask this question in a thread in General but I don't know if many people will really read it so I thought I'd put it here too has anyone tried a digital tv card with freeview? my old tv card has pretty much given up so I'm fairly tempted to get one if they're any good and actually give you all the freeview channels like E4and Men & Motors like this: ebay or does anyone know anything about this: ebaysounds rather dodgy but seller seems to claim its all legit? all opinions/info welcomed cheers
The 'sky' thing is utter tosh. It's not SKY but just tv stations transmitted on the internet. something along the lines of http://beelinetv.com/. Digital TV. I've tried one of these on a PC I was setting up for a friend. Worked pretty well.

DONT BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU GO THERE AND NOTHING IS ON. SIMPLY COME BACK LATER AND TRY AGAIN. TO GET THE MOST FROM THIS, I ADVISE YOU TO GO TO EVERY LINK THAT YOU WILL SEE ON HERE. THAT WAY YOU WILL GET TO KNOW WHAT WORKS AND WHAT IS THE BEST You may need a few extra pieces of software for these stations to work. The software you will need is as follows. You should see a link in the bottom right corner that says, Download the Free RealPlayer Only. Ignore the 14-day free trial links. This should allow you to watch all the streams listed here. Please remember these streams and links do go up and down from time to time just like any other link on the internet. If you find 1 of the links isnt working just come back and try it again later. To watch any of these links just copy and paste the link into your web browser and it should start-up the program needed and within a few minutes you should be watching the TV channel, if not try copy and pasting the link into Windows Media Player or Real Player. If its a link site just click on the link for the channel you want to watch. Just remember stations go up and down all the time so try again later if its not working. If you want to watch one of the football games make sure you get on the stream really early as they fill up really quick then you wont be able to watch anything. cool thanks guys - cheers for the list VeedubyaGTi I guess most of them are pretty crap are there any even worth checking out? now this nebula card, whats so good about it? it is fairly expensive, do I really need it? or will I do just aswell with a decent one from hauppauge? is it going to have better reception or something like that or just more gismos? as long as it gets all the freeview channels I don't really need it to do anything special...
I *think* the price of that nebula card is mainly to do with its extra features like streaming it over a LAN etc. For what its worth i have an analog hauppage card and it does the job, but its not quite suitable for replacing a normal TV, for instance. By the looks of it, that nebula card would be perfect to use on your main TV (use pc tv output) instead of a freeview box.
The software for the digi hauppage is apparently a bit flakey , I havent looked into this stuff for year or more, so they could have sorted it by now. The nebula is supposed to be solid, but I agree with you , a little pricey. Another option , is to buy another analogue TV pc card and use an external settop box. Could work out cheaper , probably more flexable. Just do a google for the different cards you've found, for forums etc (sorry havnet got any URL's) you'll soon get an idea of what they're like to use.
the nedula card is the abosolute dogs apparently. i got a hauppauge analong and a freeview box, but couldnt pick up jack even connected to the roof aerial so since got sky and have it hooked upto that, which should mean perfect picture(ish), but is far from it, the hauppage i've got is rubbish for and it's crappy software as well........ if you've got a good roof aerial then i'd go for the nebula digital tv card........
Is there a way to stream over a lan with any card? I can set up a server with mine but only play stuff that ive recorded. Not live TV
Am i ment to be looking at something? I have a TV card allready. Just want to transmit it over the LAN. Maybe just a piece of software?
depends where you are and what aerial you've already got. If you've got a really good signal, just about any aerial works - even a cheapo 5.99 indoor one. Some people already have a "digital" aerial (its called wideband I think) to improve normal tv reception. its definitely not certain that you need an aerial upgrade - I live in a flat and just plugged my box into the communal aerial. Upstairs I have an old box with a powered wideband indoor aerial that gets about 11 channels (interestingly none of which are the standard bbc1 etc, but then it gets those through normal analog, including 5! And theyre all good except bbc1)
