Fuel tank straps

Right my mk2 golfs fule tank straps are rust as hell and i wanna replace them. Can i replace them easy? if so how? and am i looking at alot of money?

just a blt at each end..do one at a time and support the tank...dunno if you can buy new..maybe a wire brush and hammerite?

 

Yeh think i might ring vag up as they are really shabby.

I bought all new tank straps recently from VAG

Think they were about 11 each, best get new bolts aswell, as the head will be a bit crap.

 

How were the old bolts? hard to get out due to rust. Are the new ones easy to fit and are they coated in anthing to stop them rusting again?

The bolts were a bit of a pain in the ass to get out.

The new bolts come in the standard issue green anti-rust coating that all new vag bolts come in.

Part numbers for straps are:
1HO 201 653 F (left)
1HO 201 654 C (right)

both are listed as 17.27 inc vat.

 

Thanx i meant the straps mate are they coated and how does the other end of the strap come off? also how did u get the bolts out?

 

damn thast right, i only got charged for 2 when there are 3, makes them about 11 each.

They are powder coated black, the bolts are 13/15mm and just come wout with a long extension on the socket

There are 3 botls on the beam end for each strap, and two of the strap are held with a bracket on the other end, and bolt on the 3rd strap - so you'd need 5 bolts in total, and washers, as the new bolts don't have flared heads like the originals.

 

So do i need to order 2 or 3 straps then? u seem to have confused me [:^(] (easily dont im afraid)

You need 3 straps.

2 of one and 1 of the other, cant remember whihc is which though.

 

so it will cost me 2x 17.23 or 3x 17.23? cheers sorry 4 being dopy

My dealers fukt up and only chaged me for 2, but i got 3, thats why i thought they were 11 each.

 

Might just wire brush em then thats quite dear. I have othr things on the car 2 spend my money on.

Hi guys

Just checked ETKA again. You need 2 right straps and one left strap.

My ETKA (v6.??) does have current prices. Had to generate the price file and import it using the maintenance facility.

Not sure how big the file was but it fitted on a floppy.
